If you are using an unlimited internet plan in your home you have less to worry about than someone who is using a plan based on the amount of data they use. Whether it be your children, or a virus on your computer, extreme use of your data can result in hefty internet bills. There are many virus like programs out there, that will install themselves on your computer, and then use your computer like a server to access the internet. I have been victim to this type of virus and had an internet bill of many hundreds of dollars. It was practically impossible to use that amount of data on my own.

Photo: Sunfox

Before I called for computer repairs, I did some research of my own. I was the victim of spyware and malware that went undetected by my big-name anti-virus software for some time. Nonetheless, I had to pay the bill, which prompted me to change the way I use and monitor my internet. Controlling, monitoring and protecting your internet from sabotage and unauthorised use is extremely important, even if you are using an unlimited plan. If others are using your bandwidth, your internet speeds will slow down. Here is a look at the best ways you can control internet use.

Content Security. Most browsers offer a certain level of content security. The only problem this can be easily manipulated. Children will soon work out how to manipulate this because they are often more adept with their computer use than their parents. Content security applications are available, and many of them are free to download.

Anti-virus. We have all needed computer support at one time or another because our computer is acting very strangely. In most cases, it was because of a virus. Anti-virus programs are very important, and we are still susceptible to virus invasion. The bigger name brands are always better because they will update to the alert of new viruses faster. Some spyware or malware are designed to make your computer a host for internet access by other computers, and this can cause a huge amount of interent use without you even knowing. These kinds of malware exist of many websites and we don’t know.

Bandwidth Manager. Knowing exactly what process or program on your computer is using bandwidth is another way to tell what you are using. The best bandwidth manager applications will breakdown the upload and download speeds with each process operating on your computer. This is the easiest way to see when your computer has been infected. You can compare this amount of usage with the amount displayed by your internet service provider. When the two amounts are different, you know there is unauthorized access at your location.

Wireless Passwords. Wireless in the home is very common. It makes using your internet easy and there is just less hassle with fewer cables. It is important you have a password for access. Newer model wireless routers can broadcast very far, and more modern laptops can pick up the weakest of signals. This can mean all of your neighbours are enjoying free internet without your knowledge.

Malware that hijacks your broadband internet connections are becoming increasingly common. Even the best anti-virus programs may not detect them, and it is recommended you use a program that is specific for monitoring spyware. Spyware monitors your computer for being monitored and abused.

Microsoft and Windows 8 have an excellent opportunity to enter the tablet market and provide the best product on the market. They have all the lessons of Apple and the Chromebook to learn from, and they are one of the biggest companies in the world. If Bill Gates is serious about philanthropy, then he should have a look at what he can do with tablets, and especially what he could do for students and our future world leaders.

Microsoft is seriously falling behind in the tablet market. Everyone knows the iPad, and even those who would have never used an Apple machine in the past are turning to Apple because of the iPad. The new Windows 8 operating system is designed to run on all devices, from your smartphone, tablet, laptop and desktop. There is no reason why an individual cannot own all.

Photo: atmtx

When they buy an iPad, they will end up buying an iPhone, and then they will want a Macbook. The iPad has indirectly been a huge personal computer market penetration tool in a very short time. It has been an extremely successful device despite the high price tag. Microsoft needs a great tablet to compete with the iPad and, considering their resources, there is nothing stopping them. Here are some of the features and functions of what we should see with a Windows 8 tablet.

Start-up — Apple laptops, desktops, iPhones and iPads are notorious for starting up slowly. The iPad is particularly slow, taking over 20 seconds. This might not sound long, but when you are trying to impress a client, and they are staring at your iPad starting up, that 20 seconds feels like an hour, and you may have lost their interest and business. The sleep/resume features promised with Windows 8 should be very functional when it comes to the tablet.

Power Use – Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the iPhone, but the iPad seems to go on forever. Charging once every two days in not uncommon. The iPhone 4 has the ability to replace the battery, which is a lifesaver for iPhone users. The iPhone runs out of battery way too fast. The iPad doesn’t. Microsoft should think very carefully about this. Manufacturers need to make sure they deliver. A tablet is designed to be carried around, and sitting at a desk while it charges is not an option.

Good Looking – There is something about Apple devices. They just look better. This has had a huge impact on the sales of the iPad. A new Windows or Microsoft tablet running the Windows upgrade needs to look good. There is no way of getting around it. The operating system itself looks smooth enough, and quality housing for that operating system is needed.

Wifi – Chromebooks come with 100mb of wireless broadband. A laptop or computer is nothing without a connection. A tablet with Windows 8 should come with integrated 3g wifi, and a great plan to go with it. 100mb is barely enough for a couple of days. A tablet release by Windows should have at least 3 gigs of wifi connection for the month, at a reasonable price.

Payment Plan – Buying an Apple is expensive. The chromebook, which is more like a netbook, or a tablet with a keyboard is being sold on a monthly plan. Students are a huge market, and schools have huge buying power. A tablet with Windows 8 or a Windows 8 tablet should be available for students on a payment plan.

Microsoft is the company that first introduced us to personal computing. If they can take us to the next level with an operating system that works on all devices and a tablet is available cheaply and on a payment plan they will have truly put themselves back in the number one reputation-based position.

How to Choose the Best Insurance For Your Home

When choosing home insurance enlist the help of an insurance broker, shop around for a competitive price and the right policy and go with a reputable company.

Before you decide on your home insurance do your research and find the right policy to suit your needs as well as your budget. Home insurance can not only just cover your home against things like fire, flood or natural disasters, it can also cover any claims made by tradesmen if they are injured while doing any work or repairs on your home.

Photo: davidpb145

When taking out home insurance it is a good idea to get contents insurance as well. If you were to lose your furniture or belongings in an accident or disaster it would be expensive to replace everything. Your belongings will also be covered against theft and be covered if you need to hire removalists when moving.

Insurance broker
You can hire an insurance broker to shop around for you and find the insurance company that is right for you. They will compare deals and find a policy that meets your requirements and is within your budget. Getting an insurance broker to find the best policy for you will save you a lot of time as well because when dealing with companies directly you need to answer a lot of questions. Insurance brokers are professionals and will clearly understand the ins and outs of different insurance policies, they will be able to sort through the various deals and they will know which is best. An insurance broker is also obliged to search all insurance companies for the right policy and they won’t show favouritism to a specific company.

Shop around

If you have decided to find an insurance company yourself then make sure you shop around to find the most competitive price. Any variations between what the insurance companies offer through their policies can sometimes be minimal but the prices can vary quite significantly. If you don’t want to spend hours on the phone getting quotes do your research online.

The right cover

Check that the insurance policy covers what you need it to. List the threats that are likely to affect your home. If you live near a river or creek then flooding could be an issue, also if you live in an area that was once a swamp or is lower ground. Your home would be at a higher risk of fire if you live in the bush or cyclones could be an issue if you lived in a tropic climate near the coast. Storm damage is a possibility in all locations. Another important check is that the policy will cover the full amount of the value of your home if you need to make a claim.

Reputable company

It is important to look into the history of the insurance company and check that they are a reputable company. You want to make sure the company is financially sound and that they are able to pay out any claims. You are best to go for a larger more well known insurance company, even if a smaller one does offer deals that seem fantastic.

Just a few years ago most people would not have imagined that we would have the ability to read e-mails via mobile phones. Today, we can not only read the email, but can do most of the business in motion. Mobile applications have changed the way we communicate, work and live, and the industry has been affected by mobile solutions in health care.

Photo: gailjadehamilton

Enterprise mobility
The biggest impact that the transition to mobile solutions has been the health sector is that the improved efficiency, as well as patient care and financial matters. Enterprise Mobility Solutions enable a major change in the way that a typical health care organization operates. Inserting the tracking information in the hands of the employees of business, medical institutions are responsible for better information on their activities in real time.

When applicable technology in the amount of health care, a pager and a pen, as it always has been, there is a significant risk to patients due to lack of real-time access between clinical and true coordination of care. With an information system based on paper, global patient information is a challenge many times. Disconnected and proprietary information systems often lead to high error rate that doctors have to wade through data from multiple sources to find what they need. The health system has addressed the challenge of collecting and sharing information in a meaningful way for years.

The emergence of Enterprise Mobility Solutions meets this challenge by providing industry with the real-time connectivity and the ability to streamline operations and improve productivity. By allowing employees to track inventory and assets in real time, they are able to work with the most up to date and make decisions based on this information, enabling greater productivity, efficiency and end account, income.

Unified communications system
Enterprise mobility can occur efficiently in health care, because it opens the door for unified communications systems that provide a consistent user interface and user experience across multiple devices and media types. This access anywhere, anywhere, anytime concept reduces the response time of communication, which is essential in decision-making. Health is an information science and solutions until the mobile is in the image, the pace of discovery has far exceeded the capacity of the health system to share new knowledge.

Photo: gailjadehamilton

Relying on a single communication system, nurses the opportunity for equal work within a team of practitioners, specialists, pharmacists and community nurses, all able to quickly coordinate care same patient. Given the diversity of its patient care teams, a unified communications system provides the opportunity to share information time-sensitive real-time, reducing the gap in the collaborative process of patient care.

Future aspects
In the future, there is also a great opportunity for companies with a focus on cloud computing to take advantage of collecting input data and provides visibility of the change process and analyze the health sector has not seen before. This is particularly relevant for small hospitals and medical practices, in particular, and cloud computing applications can be extremely profitable. Many do not have robust IT staff to support new technologies and mobile solutions, and the cloud could potentially reduce the burden of having internal IT staff to maintain and service infrastructure internally, instead of focusing on other computer problems affecting the quality of care operations and business. Cloud computing applications will be a next border to allow those in the health sector to focus less on management and on providing more effective care.

The next generation of health care requires knowledge of health information available on the exact location has the greatest impact. Enterprise Mobility Solutions enable this through integrated communications, unified communications methods and systems that provide staff with the necessary equipment. By entering the correct information in the hands, which can be exploited to the fact that mobility can be a catalyst to revolutionize the way hospitals serve patients and improve their performance.
